About me
Sonja Munévar Gagnon serves as a District Advisor in the Multilingual Education and Global Achievement department at the San Diego County Office of Education. In this role, she provides services to promote a systems approach to ensure equity and access for multilingual learner (ML) students. These services include: Culturally Sustaining English Language Development Collaborative, EL/ML Student Shadow Project, customized professional learning around effective EL/ML pedagogy, and coaching services for site and district leadership. Previously, Sonja served over 20 years in the San Diego Unified School District as a secondary teacher, staff developer, EL program director, and district-level EL resource teacher. She is a certified presenter/coach for WestEd's QTEL (Quality Teaching for English Learners) program, a National Board Certified Teacher, and a San Diego Area Writing Project (SDAWP) Fellow. Above all, Sonja is deeply committed to advancing educational equity for ML students.
