About me
Melanie Stone is the ELA Coordinator for Project ARISE at the San Diego County Office of Education, working with teachers across the county to translate reading research into classroom practice. Before this role, she was an adjunct instructor at the University of San Diego teaching reading methods courses to undergraduate and graduate students to promote effective pedagogy and practice at the university level. A classroom teacher and educational leader for 23 years, Melanie led professional development experiences leveraging her classroom as a model. As a lifetime learner, Melanie encourages conversations around continuous improvement toward student outcomes to decrease equity gaps for all learners. She is pursuing a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in literacy, researching best practices in professional development to support academic advancement. Her journey in education is characterized by a steadfast commitment to empowering students and educators alike through the transformative power of literacy.
