At Helix High our LTEL students, particularly 9th graders, were unaware of their language proficiency status. To address this, they created a unit to be used at the beginning of the school year aimed at helping students understand their EL/LTEL status and empowering them to overcome their academic and linguistic challenges. In this session, they will share both the unit and student voices.

San Ysidro School District will present an overview of its comprehensive approach to the differentiated assistance process. As a model district, they exemplify the seamless integration of resources and initiatives— including special education, improving mathematics, and, most recently, accelerating learning for Long-Term English Learners including attending to the needs of At-risk ELs—resulting in positive student outcomes.

San Diego Unified School District will share how our partnership with the California Reading & Literature Project (CRLP) is increasing supports for multilingual learners in content area classes.  Our partnership focuses on content area teacher training in Learning How English Works.
